- - - APPEARANCE
PLAY BY: Andrew Cooper
HEIGHT: 5'11''
WEIGHT: 156lbs
EYE COLOR: hazel
HAIR COLOR: chestnut brown
DETAILED APPEARANCE:
Standing at five eleven, Janus is at what he considers to be a perfect height. He doesn't tower over other people and is able to look them straight in the face without putting too much of a strain on his neck in either direction- that is, up or down. He's always been extremely lean, and muscular, because of the fact that he believes his body needs to be exercised just as badly as his mind does. Because of this he tends to take a three mile run every day if he can, and if not he at least visits the gym for a quick work out. He's definitely not a gorilla, and there are a lot of men there that could take him out easily, but that's fine by him. He's not in it to impress anybody or to score any points with a tougher crowd- he's just there to assure himself that he won't turn into some frail nerd who can't even lift his own equipment.
He got his eyes and hair from his father, and his facial features from his mother. Sporting a mop of messy chestnut co loured hair that is normally a mess, along with a pair of soulful hazel eyes, Janus gives off a certain vibe. People generally notice how outgoing and playful he is when just looking at him- he just has that certain aura. His face is a bit long, and when he wants it can give him a brooding, stern appearance, however he can never keep up such an expression for long. It just isn't in the poor man's nature.

- - - PERSONALITY
First of all, Janus is oblivious. He tends to think the world revolves around Physics and Astronomy and nobody can tell him different. He forgets at times that not everybody can solve complex equations in their heads, and find out the energy of something simply by estimating it's velocity, squaring it, and multiplying it by it's mass all in a few moment's time. He sometimes becomes very carried away, and when on a rampage, there is little to do that can stop him. He's been known to pace back and forth across the lawns of Princeton babbling to himself about this moon and that star's trajectory and the velocity of this or that multiplied by so and so ... You get the picture. He's not insane, as some first thought, but simply extremely passionate about his work.
The only thing second to his passion for Physics is his passion for spurring others along. He likes to share his feelings on the subject- inspire his students to do better, to attempt learning something. He's always been known to be a shoulder to cry on for many students, a listening ear, a guiding hand. There's the other thing about him- he's extremely compassionate. He's always willing to listen and give advice to anybody who may need it, no matter what the circumstance may be.
Janus lives for other people. It's been said that if he were a dog he'd be a golden retriever. Outgoing, friendly, loyal, and above all, hyper as all hell. There's a reason that his middle name is Hyperion (alright, bad joke, get over it). Janus seems to have boundless stores of energy waiting to be called on- he just never gets tired. This makes him an extremely interesting teacher, as he also has a very short attention span- he can never stay on one topic very long, and is always pacing around the room, picking things up, putting them in different places, putting them back where they'd originally been, etc. He is quite an amusing man to watch most of the time.
One thing about Janus is that he does not cope well with failure. Janus is used to being the best at any given thing that he tries- he is used to excelling at all things. He does not take failing at anything very well, and this is one time when he will become increasingly snappish at anybody who approaches him. Everybody has to fail at something some of the time, but Janus can't seem to understand this.

HISTORY:
Janus was born to two geniuses. His father had been a young prodigy, and had in fact had a life very similar to how Janus' own would turn out. His father, after scoring near perfect SAT scores, was sought out by many top universities. He chose Princeton, and soon as on his way to a degree in Physics. John, his father, met his mother one day when he was eating breakfast. She had to have been the most beautiful waitress he'd ever seen, and so he asked her when her shift was over. The rest is history.
His name was chosen for the fact that he shared the same birthday as the moon Janus, December Fifteenth. His middle name was another moon, as his parents decided it was only natural. And this way his entire name was just made up of three different moons, as Pern was another one. Not to mention, his parents happened to be going through an Astronomy phase at the time. He was given what he needed as a child, nothing more. Never was he spoiled by material things, but instead they challenged his mind at all times. They read him poetry, played classical music at all times of the day and night, and ensured that their child would be the smartest he could possibly be.
At age two and a half, Janus began teaching himself how to read and write. His curiosity to find out what all the fuss was about words and letters and numbers fueled in insatiable hunger to figure the world out. His parents had no idea, until one day he revealed to him what he knew by saying aloud what they had been spelling back and forth- that he was getting a puppy for Christmas. They immediately took him in for testing, and so started his journey as a prodigy child. He was tested for everything and it seemed he was off the charts for his age in all areas, able to solve simple math problems while most children his age couldn't comprehend single numbers above two. Over the next few years he began to learn a few different languages, take all sorts of lessons for different sciences and maths, teach himself to play the piano and flute, and excel in almost anything that was thrown at him.
When he was ten, he'd skipped so many grades that his parents decided it was best to home school him. They kept him in chess tournaments, on a soccer team, and wherever else he could get interaction with children his age. Instead of shunning others for lack of knowledge of interest, Janus seemed to press himself on them. It was an interesting thing to watch, as he was such a lovable, excite able, happy young thing that even children his age had a hard time putting him down. He was always happy just to be part of a group, part of something, other than what his parents provided.
At fourteen he started taking classes at Princeton. His parents had moved to New Jersey when he was thirteen because his father had taken up an engineering job at a company there. His mother drove him to the University for each class, running errands and things while she waited for him to get out. Eventually when he could drive on his own he began staying in the town over night. This was when he began distancing himself from his parents. He blamed them for the few wrong things in his life, how he had little friends that were his age, that he was constantly tested by his professors and people he didn't even know, that he could never let his guard down for fear of being mocked. Though he knew deep down it was wrong, Janus needed somebody to blame, and his parents were the most likely victims.
When he received his Ph.D he went on to get a masters in teaching, going against his parent's wishes. He could have gone to work for CERN or NASA or any of the other prestigious organizations around the world. But instead he wished to teach and get his passion through to kids not so much younger than he himself. And so he moved to LA, where he was offered a job at a public school, and began teaching. This will be his first year at LA.

ALIAS: Torque
EXPERIENCE: too long
OTHER CHARACTERS ON AWA: none
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE:The soft lull of Dahlia's purr had gently prodded him into sleep, despite the dangers lurking around each and every corner of this insecure place. He had found a small nook, shadowed and secluded, near the lake. It provided just enough space for him to curl up beside, and nearly atop, his Connected Cheetah and rest his eyes for the moment. He knew she was alert, hear head up and eyes constantly scanning for dangers. Dahlia and Theodore always switched off when it came to scouting for danger.
Theodore was on a bridge, or rather under one. He was tucked up into a compartment, where the steel and cement of the bridge met the concrete of the road. It went back about five feet, and was about eight feet wide. Though he was crammed up against the Cheetah's fur, he found it comforting and it helped him sleep past even the specified time, so that when he awoke night was blanketing the skies, and the twinkling stars were beckoning. Even worse, Dahlia seemed to be fast asleep as well. With a quick check to their mental link, he realized this was the case and shoved her, awakening the sleeping female. DAHLIA! You were supposed to be awake! He shrieked at her mentally, eyes wide and body taught.
She took her time stretching, before standing up half-way, looking at him with an annoyed air about her. Oh calm down, Theo, she countered, using her pet name for him, Nobody is around- believe me. I would have woken up. It's instinct. And without another word she leaped down from the nook under the bridge. It was a short jump for her, only about ten feet or so. Theodore had to be careful, however, and navigated downward using his hands and feet to guide him in the pitch black night. When he touched the ground, both man and feline took off running.
By the time they were finished, Theodore was panting on a park bench and Dahlia had taken refuge in the bushes beside it, doing her best to keep hidden from the public eye. Most of the homeless people kept away from the boy, associating him with the large feline they kept spotting. He knew they wouldn't cause him problems. They were afraid, as they should be. Theodore looked up, scanning the surroundings, wondering if anybody would wander by. As shy and introverted as he was, he seemed to suddenly crave company.
