The word alone has always held with in a preconception. It is the nature of most beings to be wary of anything that differs.
Now that word holds so much more.
In the past year alone more mutants have been born than in the last decade. It is surmised that by the 2010 more mutants will have surfaced than have in the past hundred years. Something has happened, something to make the genetic makeup of the human species shift greatly, and it is taking it’s toll on society as a whole.
In the beginning it was just purple eyes or an extra finger. Now the mutations are nothing nearly as bland, or easily ignorable. These mutant’s have ‘Powers’ now, powers that make them stand out oh so much more from their human counterparts.
People are scared, and out of fear and ignorance comes hate and out of all of that comes violence and that violence spreads among the masses like wildfire igniting in peoples minds until it is all consuming. This violence has driven many mutants to hiding, some try to stop it through education and others, well, they just become violent as well.
In Westchester County there is a school on which the last coats of paint have just dried. It’s doors have been open for only a month and already students of all shapes, ages and powers have found their way to its halls. Charles Xavier teaches those within along with his fellow staff and the students learn how to control and use their powers for the better. How to stop the violence, how to show the world that they have nothing to fear. Xavier preaches his ideals and waits for the day that his counter part will openly challenge him, the school and humanity.
A day that grows ever closer. A mutant once known as Magneto has finally decided to make his move. An otherworldly, painful and complex process was used to turn back time on the aging man’s body. Now in his new/old body the newly rechristened Erik roams the streets of New York, and the surrounding area, looking for those who are young and strong like him, those who are angry and easily swayed, those who will stand by his side, ready to take over the world. The Brotherhood is just newly forming, but even in it’s infant stages it is proving to be dangerous.
